When he needs it out of the way, he ties it back in a ponytail at the base of his neck, but typically, he has no qualms about keeping it down. EYE | His eyes are a pale blue-green, almost aquamarine in color. The color stems from his (distant) Northern Water Tribe heritage.  ATTIRE | while his typical attire changes regularly, he is often seen wearing a coat over whatever it happens to be. He has a preference for somewhat formal clothing as well, though makes a point to keep it as informal as possible. he really just likes the look of it. Ryuma has been trained since he was a child in the art of Chi Blocking by his father and is an expert at the craft. He is agile, quick on his feet, and has an incredibly high endurance. He has also been trained in a version the martial arts taught for each bending style in order to familiarize himself with the movements. WEAPONS | N/A PET | he has a fire ferret that he's named Akio. It's not really his per say. It's a stray that's grown attached to him that he takes care of. His father doesn't approve of pets, so he doesn't take him home, but he makes sure visit him all the time and Akio has pretty much accepted the fact that he belongs to someone. your skin is burning at the sight of me HISTORY | The Sakamoto family has very distant roots tracing back through the Earth Kingdom on his mother's side and the Southern Water Tribe on his father's. In earlier generations, they were a bending family, however, the last generations have become non-benders. Hence the reason Ryuma, with the blue-green eyes of a Northern Waterbender, is a non-bender like his father and mother. He is the eldest  of two, his sister being significantly younger than himself at 12 years old. The Sakamoto children were raised by an incredibly strict father who had deep ties with the anti-bending party and pushed those beliefs onto his children, especially his only son. Ryuma was pretty much brainwashed into believing the ideals of the distant anti-bending revolution.Any question as to the validity of those beliefs was met with the firm hand of his father, who is not afraid to use corporal punishment to encourage obedience in his household. It is because of this that Ryuma does, for the most part, whatever his father says and believes in whatever he believes. His mother was never nearly as strict as his father, though she shares the same 'equalist' views. She tends to turn a blind eye to Mr. Sakamoto's treatment of his children.. Though the gene skipped a few generations, his younger sister was born an Earthbender. She knows this, and Ryuma knows it, but it's something that the two of them keep to themselves only because they're afraid of what their father will do when he finds out. Ryuma has put a lot of effort into ensuring that the secret stays a secret. Whether or not she actively practices her bending, he doesn't know not because he doesn't care, but because as he's told her, "The less he knows, the better". He doesn't need to lie to his father about things that he can't confirm or deny. (because Mr. Sakamoto is really good at picking a liar). It is his sister's status as a bender that has slowly started to make Ryuma change his views (not that he ever told his father about it). He was seventeen when he picked up a smoking habit on the suggestion of a random strange he met in the park who said he looked like he "Needed to relax" after a difficult training session with his father. It wasn't supposed to turn into a habit, but Ryuma has found that he can't break the habit. He knows it's unhealthy though, so to try to keep himself from smoking, he tends to chew gum, or toothpicks, or anything really to keep his mouth busy. He only smokes when he's not around his father though. Heaven knows that Mr. Sakamoto wouldn't approve. He often attends pro bending matches. At first, his presence there was to study the styles of benders per his father's request, but after he discovered his sister's status as an earth bender, he started to sort of enjoy the sport, not only for the knowledge of their fighting styles, but for the actual competition itself. Lately, his presence at the events has been for fun, not for training (and so his sisters can get a chance to safely see benders in action). Not that he'll ever admit it.

We don't actually have "Equalists", per se. As far as site canon goes, there are non-benders who are not fond of bender; but they are not organized. You're more than welcome to start that organization.

Why does he like pro-bending, yet dislike benders? Does he enjoy watching them duke it out?

Chi-Blockers never learned the arts associated with bending and were extremely potent against it, so I know what direction you're going with this (trying to create a catch-all counter against all types of bending) but you really don't need it and it kind of ruins combat threads. I can't think that anyone would teach a non-bender them anyway.
