HAIR | Que has short, light blonde hair she cuts herself. It’s often done sloppily, resulting in different sections being different lengths depending on what she could reach and whether she had a reflective surface to look to for reference. She cuts it whenever she feels it’s getting in the way, so will sometimes allow her hair to grow out longer than usual until she finds it tangling, getting caught on things, or easily grabbed or pulled by others. She'll occasionally tie it with a ribbon, usually to make it look more evenly cut or keep it out of her eyes. EYE | Que’s eyes are a deep blue, comparable to great depths of water, though the lighting may make her irises look a lighter colour than they are. ATTIRE | Que’s attire are made up of dark colours, not to mention very limited. Her most common outfit is whatever shirt smells halfway decent, a dark brown jacket that’s too big for her, a black pair of shorts, and then pants beneath that. She often wears a scarf as well, for sentimental reasons. When traveling long distances or cold, she wears a plain, generic brown cloak. She has one pair of shoes, which are the dark boots she wears, and are so dirty washing them is almost futile. The bag she carries holds everything she owns. ABNORMALITIES | Que is very small for her age, and this is not healthy. She’s sorely underweight due to malnourishment, and thus eats whenever she can, regardless what it is. As a side affect, her growth has been stunted, leaving her looking like she’s twelve. She also isn’t very strong, and is easily picked up by almost anybody. Que also has a number of small scars scattered about, mostly on her arms and legs, from certain unfortunate circumstances, as she puts it. SKILLS | Que’s waterbending skills are limited to basic combat and healing on a traditional level. She has, however, experimented with offense and defensive techniques, thus giving her a rough, unrefined style. She also knows how best to use her bending to clean things, both objects and persons.As per requirement of her lifestyle, Que is very skilled at the frowned-upon techniques one might have. She’s excellent at picking both locks and pockets, has a very quiet footstep, and knows a number of varying cons she occasionally plays. She’s also decent with a knife, and can gut and skill most small animals.On a non-offensive note, Que isn’t a bad singer, either, and has played around with various stringed instruments in the past. Shame she uses these abilities in her thieving tactics. WEAPONS | Que carries two knives she hides on her person at all times. PET | She’s in no way capable of supporting anyone besides herself, but she does have a tendency to feed any stray animals who also seem pitifully starving, and has a few nicknames for those that find her repeatedly. She really shouldn’t, she knows, considering she barely gets enough half the time, but she can’t help it. They deserve the right to live too, right? your skin is burning at the sight of me HISTORY | Que was born Jiao Hemu, daughter of a deserter of the Northern Water Tribe forces and a nonbender from the Earth Kingdom. Her aptitude for waterbending was recognized when she was about six. After much discussion, her parents decided it was best she at least learn to understand and control it, to avoid accidents. Her father trained her for four years in the basics of offense, defense, and healing techniques; this was made possible by his job, a woodcutter, and claiming he was giving her mother a break by watching her for the day. When Jiao was ten, the draft came through the village again, recruiting all capable men to the army for the war. Her father was one of them, promising to write when he could. This put a stop to Jiao’s training, save for very carefully monitored practice and small, creative moves she tried on her own. They got along well enough, until two years later, when the Hemu ladies received word that Jiao’s father was to be executed as a Water Tribe spy. Jiao and her mother abruptly became pariahs of the town despite the false declarations of not having known. They barely scrapped by, the desperation prompting Jiao to start stealing small things and trying to hunt any animals she could to help them survive, which she never let her mother know. Her mother talked often of going to the United Republic and starting a new life together, but soon fell ill before Jiao could discern whether or not she was serious or merely fanciful. She died shortly after. Jiao remained in the village a little while after, living on uncomfortable charity and under constant scrutiny and criticism. Eventually she decided she didn’t want to live like this, so she packed her bag with what she’d need, cut her hair, and changed her name to start over. She left in the middle of the night for the United Republic, where her mother always talked, and so began the life of Que Piaodang. Under the new alias, Que traveled to Republic City. Being ill-prepared and underestimating the journey’s difficulties, she wouldn’t have made it if it weren’t for a group of merchants who offered to take her there, after she fibbed and told them she was traveling to surprise her implied-to-be-wealthy father but her ostrich horse was stolen and long lost. They treated her like a daughter, had her help here and there when they needed an extra set of hands, and debated sticking around with some sort-of lie of “discovering” she was an orphan, but ultimately decided against it. In the end, she ditched them as soon as she could after entering the city, and hasn’t seen them since. If they found anyone with her pseudo-pseudonym, she’s no idea. She still feels a bit guilty about it, though. On her own in the city, however, reality started to sink in for Que, and the problems she’d encounter. Being young and inexperienced, she had trouble finding any sort of job, and given her waterbending was only basic at best and training would require money she didn’t have, she was unable to use her bending for a job or get any professional coaching. This left Que homeless, alone, utterly broke, and with limited, if any, chances to better herself. Inevitably, she fell into the conventionally amoral lifestyle, learning tricks from others like her, honing them through repetitive use, and even making some up on her own to get money, food, or whatever it is she needed at the time, everything she owns in her bag. The closest to a proper home she has is when house-squatting, which is always risky and isn’t often an option for her. Sometimes she’ll get together with a few others she knows and work on something big that requires collaboration, but she prefers to avoid though. They tend to be high-risk, low-profit (once split), and she’s never been excellent with people. She much prefers solo jobs when it comes to tips or hustling or even an indirect grab-and-go situation, even if she only gets a fraction of the full amount thanks to the middle man – but considering her status, it's the one resource she's got to earning anything with a semblance to regular income, even if she gets snubbed here and there due to her age and gender, so she keeps in contact. Even though, sometimes, she’ll feel bad about what she does. But she’s got just as much right to live as the next person, you know? So why should she have to stop in order to make life easier for those who already have a foothold and can do something with themselves? She takes what she needs, and they can always earn it back. She doesn’t have that luxury, not through society’s “honest” and standards.
